Pom Poms are so fun and easy to make! I made one for my Easter Bunny Wreath, and then I just couldn’t stop! So I decided to make 2 more easy DIY Pom Pom wreaths just because. I used scrap yarn that I had from around my house in pink and white. In total I used about 3 balls of yarn, but depending on the size you make your pom poms, you may use a little more or less. You can usually find a wreath hoop at the Dollar Store, Michaels or on Amazon. Click the link to shop gold wreath hoops!

How to Make a Pom Pom

  • Take your scrap cardboard and cut two circles the diameter of the pom pom. It helps if you have a cup or jar to trace around. I made mine about 4 inches in diameter.
  • Next, punch a hole in the middle of each circle and cut from the edge to the hole. Then cut out the middle of each circle (like a donut) and cut out a chunk of the perimeter. The final shape should look like a thick letter C (but you only need a small gap).
  • Layer your two ‘C’s and begin winding your yarn around the carboard. Continue winding the yarn until you have a thick layer all around. The more yarn you wind around, the denser and fluffier your pom pom will be!
  • When you are satisfied with the thickness, cut the yarn. Slide your scissors between the two cardboard layers and begin cutting every loop. Use your finger to prevent the yarn from moving once it’s been cut.
  • Take a long piece of yarn and wrap it between the two layers of cardboard, surrounding all the small pieces of yarn. Tie off the long piece tightly!
  • Slide off the two layers of cardboard. Fluff your pom pom and trim any long ends.

How to Make the Pom Pom Wreath

  1. Make a bunch of pom poms in various colors. I decided on about 4 inches in diameter for some pom poms, and about 6 inches in diameter for others.
  2. Tie the pom poms onto the wreath hoop in whatever pattern you like.
  3. Use a glue gun for extra security.

For the first wreath, I clustered all the pom poms at the base of the wreath and added a bow.

For the second wreath I spread out all the pom poms fairly evenly.

The great thing about these wreaths is the ability to customize however you like! Get creative and have fun!
