Family Yearbook: January 2021

I saw the idea of a Family Yearbook on Pinterest and thought it was genius! Instead of hoarding all your photos on your phone, you make a photobook that sums up the year. That way your photos are organized and can be displayed in your home. I decided to make it more manageable by selecting the photos, writing a blurb, and summarizing each month so at the end of the year, all I have to do is upload it into a site like Shutterfly

Making fun memories, organizing our photos and actually having a fun way to display them is definitely part of our Family Culture. I am trying to actively cultivate a feeling of togetherness and fun in our family.

Family Yearbook: January 2021

We started the New Year with some quiet (and sleepy) time at home. I was laid off, Scott’s business is in the off season and Edmonton is still under lock down. At least the weather has been unseasonably warm! We try to get out of the house at least once a day to avoid total cabin fever. Whether it be a walk, a drive, or a visit to the grocery store we make it an event. Our favorite pastimes are movies (on our new couch that was delivered!!!), board games, Pinterest/Blogging (for me) and video games (for Scott). He even got me to play MTG a few times. We attempted our first Craft Box from our monthly subscription which was resin pouring (and we filmed it!).

Towards the end of the month it was Baby Watch 2021 for my brother. We anxiously awaited the birth of my brother’s little girl London. My SIL was induced about 3 weeks early, but luckily I was able to drive down to Calgary to help babysit their toddler and dog while they were in the hospital and to help them transition from 1 to 2 kids. Living 3 hours away is tough, but I am actually the closest family member and so I was fortunate to have some quality bonding time with the nephew and new niece before anyone else. With the new COVID strains entering Canada, and the distance between the other family members it may be awhile before they can all meet new baby. We end the first month of the new year grateful for everyone’s health, and with excitement over new family members.

Try it out with your family! Write a little monthly update with some of the best pictures that month so you can remember what your year was like!
